Going Forward
As Bayer's leadership and alliance team reflect on where
to go from here, the organization sees value in coming
together to think about how to improve partnering capability across the pharmaceutical industry. Many of
Bayer's peers are already engaged in similar efforts.
Smaller counterparts, though, often lack the resources.
In future alliances, Bayer hopes explicitly to make partnering capability part of the alliance work plan, in order
to help not only Bayer but also its partners to continue
to enhance their capabilities. Bayer believes it is its responsibility to help nurture smaller partners, as a

long-term relationship goes through many stages, and a
small biotech today may grow and partner with the organization in other ways at a later stage of its growth.
As much as Bayer would like to think that it can make
its partnering capability a competitive advantage, the
organization is even more interested in partnering with
companies that share similar values and principles. Creating a more universal partnership capability would be
of benefit to the entire industry, and Bayer looks forward to continuing to work with all of its partners to
further this. n
