Bringing smart cities
technology to Kuala
Lumpur, Malaysia,
Huawei, an ASAP global
member,
is joining the Comverse@I-City
project to develop interconnected
safe and monitored IoT home ecosystems. The alliance will focus on
creating a new model for implementing intelligent systems into homes in
Asia. So-called "smart homes" use
IoT, cloud, and communications
technology to manage, monitor,
and track home appliances, lighting,
safety and security devices, HVAC,
and other electronics. Huawei will
supply the IT capabilities while
collaborating with property development expert IBerhad. The project
also involves setting and creating
building codes and energy delivery
for smart homes. Additional smart
city solutions are expected to follow,
such as smart street lighting, parking, and traffic management to help
create more livable and enjoyable

spaces in Malaysian cities. "Huawei
wants to ensure that the Malaysian
Intelligent Home Experience is a
place where families truly feel safe,
entertained, and economically protected," said  Lim Chee Siong, chief
marketing officer, Huawei Southern
Pacific Region. "So it is befitting that
as we are celebrating 15 years of continuous innovation in  Malaysia  to
ensure the betterment of the nation,
we undertake the next step in consumer transformation." In another
alliance with Telefonica, Huawei is
providing hardware and software,

technical support, servers, storage,
and other components for the Open
Cloud and cloud server services in
Mexico, Brazil, and Chile. Open
Cloud is a public cloud service that
is hosted in Telefonica's data centers.

Schneider Electric, an
ASAP global member,
and Panasonic
Corporation announced a
partnership
to jointly manage the development
of new wireless interface solutions.
The integrated HVAC equipment
and building management solution
enables direct serial communication
between Schneider Electric's building management system and room
controllers with Panasonic's variable refrigerant flow-based HVAC
systems through the ZigBee wireless communication standard. The
system allows building owners and
managers to view all of their core
building systems, including HVAC
equipment, lighting, power, electrical distribution, and security, from
any location at any time. The system also provides technical support
