Collaborations Mushroom in Thriving Cross-Industry
Ecosystems of IT, Healthcare, and Other Industries

Global member IBM and
VMware are increasing
the speed and economics
of cloud computing
through a strategic partnership that
improves deployment of VMware-based software to IBM's 45
cloud data centers worldwide. The
partnership seeks to help the large
percentage of Fortune 100 companies using VMware broaden their
reach while reducing security risks,
retooling expenses, and development
concerns. IBM's CloudBuilder tools
and workload automation capabilities
will allow users to deploy workloads
in a hybrid cloud without modification. The companies share common
networking frameworks and security
systems based on VMware. "We are
reaching a tipping point for cloud
as the platform on which the vast
majority of business will happen," said
Robert LeBlanc, senior vice president
of IBM Cloud. "The strategic
partnership between IBM and
VMWare will enable clients
to easily embrace the cloud
while preserving their existing investments and creating
new business opportunities."
IBM and VMWare also have
entered into an agreement to
sell products and services for
hybrid cloud deployments, such as
disaster recovery, capacity expansion, seamless workload migrations,
and data center consolidation. "This
partnership, an extension of our
14-year plus relationship with IBM,
demonstrates a shared vision that
will help enterprise customers more
quickly and easily embrace the hybrid
cloud," said Pat Gelsinger, CEO at
VMware. "Our customers will be able
to efficiently and securely deploy their
proven software-defined solutions
with sophisticated workload automation to take advantage of the flexibility
and cost effectiveness of IBM Cloud."
More than 30 companies
are forging a megacollaboration with Dell,
an ASAP global member, in its
newly launched IoT Solutions
Partner Program. The plan
helps ecosystem partners from a
wide range of industries-from
transportation to industrial and
building automation-explore
alliance possibilities and strategies
with the help of Dell's product
portfolio and educational tools.
Among the companies that have
joined so far are Microsoft, Software
AG, GE, and SAP. "Dell believes
that opportunities increase when
you help others win," said Andy
Rhodes, executive director of Dell's
commercial IoT solutions, about the
impetus for the program. Indepen-
dent software vendors are "critical
in building the bridge between the
exciting industry potential of IoT
and profitable market reality," he
added.
