How are organizations using some of these
technologies, and what are some of the benefits
of adapting these new options?
IoT describes a very broad array of potential "Things" that

could be part of an IoT network, so its application is extremely broad. They can range from simple home automation

systems, industrial applications, medical device management,
intelligent vehicle automation, agriculture and farming,

smart energy grids, to entire cities that are "plugged" into a

smart learning network. Imagine the intelligent automation
of many routine and daily tasks with systems that remove

the requirement for human interaction and deliver greater

efficiencies and accuracy, while continually learning! However,
security challenges need to be addressed for your IoT network
and these relatively unsophisticated devices.

Fintech Payment solutions are typically thought to

be the remit of small start-up organizations that focus on

delivering low-cost financial services payment solutions for

consumers, in turn disrupting incumbent financial services
industry players (banks, insurance, brokers, wealth man-

agement, etc.). However, some of these FSI organizations

are also creating their own payment solutions and trying to

partner with these smaller fintechs; trying to get ahead of the
innovation curve and effectively "disrupt themselves." From a

partnering perspective, there is a potential "David and Goliath"
conundrum between these two players as they try to partner
together in an effort to solve joint consumer problems.

Blockchain is often associated with cryptocurrencies and
capital raising efforts through Initial Coin Offerings (ICOs).
However there are many potential uses of this system if

focused on efficient, real-time, and secure record management
and distribution. These include streamlining government
services, smart legal contracting, secure medical records

management, efficient transaction processing, food source

traceability, supply chain management, real estate settlement
services, international freight management, etc.

What industries are most likely to benefit from
using such technologies, and why?
That is a difficult question to answer as these technologies
can be applied to many industries! The more obvious ones
include financial services leveraging fintech payments and
blockchain-banking, insurance, wealth management,
broker services; mining-oil-gas with IoT in-field devices
and control automation; agriculture for IoT in-field status
and control, blockchain for contract settlement; utilities
and smart energy grids.
It also depends on if you are going to be bound to current
industry product and service delivery definitions. A major retailer, for example, could apply IoT and blockchain
together to real-time enable its supply chain-inventory-transportation management systems, improve
consumer marketing with digital marketing and social media capabilities, combine real-time consumer information
with smart payment solutions, and partner with adjacent
industry providers in finance, media, and transportation.
The retailer then has an ability to provide a number of incremental offers for its customers-tailored banking and
insurance products, specific complimentary media offerings, enhanced delivery and collection services-making
it far more competitive within its industry and potentially
disrupting adjacent industries.

What kind of disruption can industry expect with
the adoption of such technologies, and how can alliance managers help company culture adapt?
The scale and scope of disruption within many industries is still being understood and played out, with
various hypotheses on the future impact of digital
technologies, ranging from incremental step-change
innovation to complete industry reorganization and
collapse! Given that these new technology solutions are
still evolving and can be deployed organization-wide for
a combination of networked organizations and ecosystems of connected organizations, these changes could
be significant and have the potential to redefine entire
markets and the key players within each industry-both
established and new firms.
Typically, alliance leaders have an external orientation on
"How can we collaboratively create new value together"
with partners? Smart organizations should be leveraging
this thinking and approaches to evolve their organizations'
