2018 Summit Highlights the Evolving Trends and Practices in
Digital Transformation, Leadership, and Much More

It was 1999.

You could make a pot of coffee in the
time it took for a dial-up Internet connection. Y2K
loomed as a potential disruptor. CDROMs, boom boxes,
and floppy disks were the rage. And the first A.S.A.P.
Summit was launched in Chicago-a revolutionary idea
on the heels of the founding of A.S.A.P. the previous year.
"It was a breakthrough. It was marvelous. In 1999, we
had pioneers in the sessions," enthuses Robert Porter
Lynch, cofounder of ASAP, when reflecting on the annual Summit's beginnings. "It was the first time
alliance professionals had ever gathered from around
the world. There was a large contingent from Europe.
... Up until the mid '90s, the Europeans were far better
at forming alliances than the Americans. They were
fascinated in Europe about how we progressed so
quickly" due to the best practices baked into ASAP's
mandate, he recalls. "Today, we have more specific
terms about best practices but are still grappling with
some of the same issues."
