Charm City Dolling Club Of Maryland
pril 18, 2016, was a beautiful, sunny day when Charm City Dolling Club of Maryland held their "My Mommy,
My Dolly and Me" luncheon. Equally as beautiful was the sight of lovely ladies and young girls (with dolls in
hand) streaming into Epworth Methodist Chapel. After entering the banquet hall, all the guests began to smile as
they realized they had just stepped into a doll lover's paradise.
Luncheon guests enjoyed a variety of "dolling" activities such as shopping at wonderful sales tables, buying
raffle tickets to win great helper prizes and visiting the "Dolls of Color" display.
Junior collectors participated in a "Our Darling Dolls" doll competition and "My Favorite Doll" writing
contest, winning ribbons and tons of prizes. Also circulating around the room dressed as "living dolls" were
teenagers Zoe Knight and Taylor Mitchell serving as junior luncheon hostesses. Everyone was charmed by their
winning smiles and extreme helpfulness to all.
Luncheon guests were highly entertained by the unique, captivating storytelling style of griot and folklorist,
Janice Curtis Greene. She told the story, "The Last Doll on the Shelf." She crafted this story especially for our
luncheon. The story tells of a beautiful black princess doll who wonders why no one wants to buy her. It was a
very thought provoking tale.
Once helper prizes were distributed, it was time to present the souvenir dolls. Each guest was given one of
two "Prettie Girls" dolls. These dolls were created by Stacy McBride Irby of One World Doll Company. "Prettie
Girls" dolls promote a positive image of what girls should aim for in their lives. Later, guests received a custom
made dress for their dolls designed by Denise Bond.
The "My Mommy, My Dolly and Me" luncheon was "An Affair to Remember."
