* The 2016 UFDC Souvenir Journal was created by Lynn Murray. We greatly appreciate her work and that of all the authors who contributed and the advertisers who supported the project. * We have 108 dealers in the salesroom, ten participants in Publishers' Preview and eight artists in the Artist Showcase. * Educational activities include ten open programs provided by experts in their ﬁelds, 22 seminars, 26 workshops offered for all skill levels including four structured for our Junior Collector attendees and 24 Dynamic Doll Dialogues on a variety of topics. * Eight special interest groups will be holding their gatherings during convention. These are as follows: Robert Tonner, Schoenhut, Ultimate French Fashion, Bleuette, Cloth Dolls, American Indian, and Ruby Red Galleria. Other activities include the "At Your Service" Ice Cream Social, a Junior Reception, and the Miss Unity Scavenger Hunt. * Convention artwork was used for merchandise available for purchase. These items include pins, notecards and scarves. UFDC fundraising events include "An afternoon with Florence Theriault" and an "Evening with Heather Maciak." As of June 30th, convention sponsorships totaled $32,875 and cash donations $2,860 for a total of $35,735. These donations are absolutely vital to underwrite some of the costs of convention involved in areas like the competitive and special exhibits and are extremely appreciated. * Corporate member Bailey Trucking Company generously donated the 2016 tote bags for the ﬁfth year in a row. * Our souvenir doll artist Heather Maciak is supplying a companion doll "Annie." A portion of the proceeds will be donated to UFDC. * Beverly Stoehr donated ten limited edition dolls, one of which will be given away at a drawing to be held at the opening ceremony and the rest sold at the UFDC booth with all proceeds donated to UFDC. * Margaret Vitale donated the banquet centerpieces and crew tee shirts. * Doll artists are providing companions and/or centerpieces for their events with portions of the proceeds donated to convention. * Margaret Vitale, Sandy Kralovetz and Dot Hagman provided sponsorship for the Kindred Spirits Banquet. 168 FALL 2016 Publicity for convention included: videos prepared by Dorothy Drake, email blasts, Facebook networking, ﬂiers and ads in magazines. Thanks go out to Victoria Christopherson who compiled and edited the competitive exhibit booklet, the tentative schedule booklet, the ﬁnal schedule booklet, and the mini schedule booklet. The convention could not be possible without a team of dedicated volunteers who also work throughout the year. This convention is one that is organized by the members for the members. The Convention Director is extremely grateful to all those who contributed. Their experience and expertise are essential elements to staging a convention of the scope and size of UFDC's. Members who support convention through their attendance and volunteering at convention are critical to its success and are greatly appreciated. Many volunteers are hard at work in the Competitive Exhibit room, the Helper and Silent Auction, the Salesroom, Judging, Monitoring, Apprentice Judging, Exhibit Judging, Highlight Tours, Mini-Ofﬁce Services, Registration, Security, Shipping and Handling of Convention Materials, and all the other aspects too numerous to mention but are nonetheless also invaluable in the running of convention. The Convention Director thanks all these individuals who give so much of themselves to convention and the organization. The Convention Director thanks the UFDC staff who serve our membership thought the year and work extremely hard on convention in the months leading up to the opening and who work long hours at convention. The Director of Convention Services is a multi-task job which requires long hours of dedicated work and learning new job skills. Contracts are negotiated, artists and manufacturers are hired for events, and schedules are organized and prepared. None of these jobs could be completed without the help of my fellow Ofﬁcers, the UFDC staff, our Chairpersons, the Crew and Volunteers. It is my sincerest hope that every attendee enjoys their time meeting with their Kindred Spirits and creating memorable experiences at the 2016 convention.
