the UFDC club table on Public Day of the Salesroom.
Another new friend from Wisconsin was in the helper
room when I met up with her. How many ten-year-old
girls do you see stuffing helper tickets in the box for a
1930s Shirley Temple doll? As we chatted, she took me
around to see all the American Girl offerings, sharing
her knowledge and offering opinions to me. The hotel
dining room was where I encountered Thomas, a junior
collector. He has a lot of interests and is a veteran of
UFDC conventions. I look forward to seeing all these
young people every year. Be sure to greet our juniors,
they have a lot to share with us too.
Ray's team, which works security for the annual
meeting, was up bright and early Friday morning. This
group has been together for a long time checking badges
and membership cards at the doors. Stories abound of
delegates oversleeping or forgetting to pick up credentials,
lost membership cards, a UFDC honoree without a badge,
and more. The Banana Crew is up even earlier and working
around the clock every day behind the scenes. They make
sure events run smoothly and deserve a big thank you!
Our UFDC office staff is outstanding in what must
be a crazy week for them. 1001 people trying to figure
out where they are supposed to be at any given time is a
logistical nightmare.
Late night gatherings like the Cloth Doll Gathering
were a way to further our study of dolls. Following
a power point presentation, a drawing was held,
guaranteeing that everyone in attendance went home
