From the Editor Dear Readers, T his issue centers around fashion, friends (Kindred Spirits) and, with the national election coming, our presidents. Alexander's "Cissy" fashion doll of the ﬁfties takes center stage on our cover. In "Cissy Evolution of a Fashion Doll," author Bruce de Armond presents Cissy as a 20th century icon of fashion. Then we step back in history to enjoy a convention special exhibit, Antique Dolls with Wardrobes" mounted by Donelle Denery, with counsel from Elizabeth Ann Coleman, and the help of many friends. A variety of antique dolls with their original wardrobes were on display reminding us that fashion is often reﬂected in dolls of the period. Themed "Kindred Spirits," the national convention was about collectors connecting with other collectors and their attachment to dolls. The meeting with its many facets offered programs, seminars, workshops, roundtable discussions, special meal events, an amazing competition, a bountiful salesroom, a souvenir journal by Lynn Murray, and a souvenir doll by NIADA artist Heather Maciak. Inspired by the convention, DOLL NEWS brings you several related articles including "Does Your Doll Need a Trunk?" By Kay Cassedy from the Dynamic Doll Dialogues; a triple feature by Nancy Goldstein about miniatures and dollhouses inspired from a special exhibit of doll houses on loan from the Victoria and Albert Museum of Childhood at the National Building Museum during the convention. Canadian Paper doll Bruce Patrick Jones, has comically created a pair of paper dolls looking at the American politics and the election. Patti Fertel humors us with "Paper Dolls Poke Fun at Presidential Politics." Susan Kraus Mancuso acquaints us with Kimport's Presidential Pairs. You will ﬁnd more fascinating information in "The Saga of Mary Hoyer's Dolls," Marsha Hunter's "Little Shavers for Madame Alexander," Rebekah Kaufman's "Steiff's Cloth Dolls," Glenda Kitto's "Dennison's Crepe Fashions," and Linda Holderbaum's "Souvenirs of the Boulonnaise."
